The Eating Disorder Program at Hasbro Children’s Hospital provides multidisciplinary, family-centered care for children and adolescents with eating disorders. Our program includes comprehensive inpatient and outpatient medical, nutritional and mental health services to promote and maintain physical and mental wellbeing. For patients in need of an intensive outpatient day program, we also work closely with the Hasbro Partial Hospital Program, which offers structured care during the school day for children and adolescents with medical and emotional issues.

We offer a complete range of medical, nutritional and psychiatric services in a safe, confidential environment. Every member of our skilled and experienced cross-disciplinary team has had specialty training in the care of adolescents with eating disorders.

We provide treatment for:

  • Anorexia Nervosa
  • Bulimia Nervosa
  • Unspecified Eating Disorders

Our services include:

  • Medical care (both inpatient and outpatient)
  • Nutritional evaluation, counseling, and monitoring
  • Mental health support, including inpatient psychiatric evaluation; inpatient and outpatient family/patient support; and education services
  • Case management, including coordination of inpatient and outpatient services; communication with community providers, including therapists, psychiatrists, and primary medical doctors; and referrals to alternative levels of care, when indicated

Research

Our comprehensive approach incorporates clinical research into daily practice. We ask questions that are critically important to the ongoing care of adolescents with eating disorders. Currently, our team is investigating the etiology of bone loss in patients with eating disorders, and the impact of cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavioral therapy on hospitalized individuals with a restrictive eating disorder. We are also a study site for an National Institutes of Health-funded clinical trial investigating the effects of a promising new oral therapy to prevent bone loss in patients with anorexia nervosa.
