The Walk for Hasbro Children's Hospital

Thank You!

More than 1,000 walkers, supporters and volunteers from across Southern New England attended The Walk for Hasbro Children's Hospital on Saturday, September 24, 2011!

Patients, families, hospital staff, local businesses and the public teamed up to raise money to enhance existing programs or purchase critically needed medical equipment for the hospital’s young patients.

"The Walk for Hasbro Children's Hospital is not only a chance to help children in the future, but also to see the great strides we've already made," said Timothy J. Babineau, M.D., president and CEO of Rhode Island Hospital and its Hasbro Children's Hospital. "It's an inspiring feeling to be able to walk around and see the faces of patients and families that we have been able to help over the years. Events like this will help us to continue to improve the lives of everyone who walks though our doors."

The Walk, presented by Mega Logistics, Inc., is a 5k (3.2 miles) fundraising walk held on a family-friendly course. This year, the Walk's location changed from downtown Providence to a new venue at Roger Williams Park, also in Providence, R.I.

The festivities were kicked off by emcee Patrick Little from WPRI-TV and Fox Providence, followed by a welcome from Providence Mayor Angel Taveras. The event was filled with food, dancing and fun family activities throughout the day, including special guests The Green Apple Kids Band, as well as caricature artists and face painters. Bwana Iguana Reptile Adventure introduced families to exotic animals and Pepsi provided refreshments. Event sponsor Hasbro, Inc. hosted a tent filled with fun activities such as TWISTER, JENGA and NERF games for kids to play, in addition to the hundreds of Team Hasbro walkers and volunteers in attendance to support this year's Walk.

Radio stations 92 PRO-FM, Lite Rock 105 and WPRO-AM 630 were at Roger Williams Park with games and giveaways for walkers. Live music and entertainment were playing along the walk route, as well as refueling stations sponsored by OfficeMax. Cox Media was also a sponsor for the event.

"I had a great time walking with my own team. This is more than just a walk; it is a time for us to come together with our families and friends to make sure our children continue to get the best possible care and treatment close to home," says Robert B. Klein, MD, pediatrician-in-chief and medical director of Hasbro Children's Hospital. "We are grateful to all the participants, and we encourage new teams, families and individuals to participate in next year's event."
