Child and adolescent forensic psychiatry focuses on child, adolescent and family psychiatry in relation to laws and the legal system. The Forensic Psychiatry Division coordinates the broad range of forensic activities taking place in the department.
Topics that fall under this psychiatric area include correctional psychiatry, and criminal responsibility and competency. Child and adolescent forensic psychiatrists most often work with juveniles, or high-risk youth, in need of psychiatric consult.
Currently, we provide the majority of correctional psychiatry for the State of Rhode Island for both adults and children. We are also involved with the court system in addressing issues with children and families. In addition, several of our staff provides forensic psychiatry consulting nationally in a number of expert areas.
