Our diabetes support program puts patients and families in touch with each other in a warm, relaxed and informal environment. Families are grouped with others who have children of a similar age. Each group meets on the third Tuesday of each month for approximately 90 minutes. Parents can exchange experiences while sharing tips and strategies; kids can enjoy some fun and conversation with peers who are also living with diabetes. The emphasis is on fun and family to family connection.
We alternate child group (ages 6-12 years) with teen group (ages 13-18 years). Children and teens will participate in age-appropriate creative activity and games. The emphasis is on fun and making connections, rather than formal diabetes education or lecture.
Groups are facilitated by medical professionals including pediatric clinical social worker, dietitian and diabetes nurse educators, endocrine fellows (MD), parent mentors and special guests.
