We are a full member institution of the Children’s Oncology Group with representation on multiple disease committees, discipline committees and on the executive committee. We are also members of the Dana Farber ALL Consortium and founders of both the Consortium for New England Childhood Cancer Survivorship, and the New England Pediatric Sickle Cell Consortium. With these national and regional groups, we have treatment protocols available for virtually every pediatric cancer patient and interventions to improve the lives of children dealing with chronic hematologic diseases or the consequences of cancer treatment.
Director: Cindy Schwartz, MD, MPH;
The CHAMPS (Comprehensive Health Assessment and Management for Pediatric Cancer Survivors) Program provides health assessment, education about late effects, counseling, and management of conditions that arise following cancer treatment. Anyone who was treated for cancer as a child or adolescent, is cancer-free, and who is five or more years past diagnosis can participate in the CHAMPS Program.
Director: Jennifer Welch, MD
For some children diagnosed with cancer, their ability to have their own children in the future may be threatened. Although our first goal is to cure the child’s cancer, we take every opportunity to maximize the chance for fertility preservation. Possible concerns for each child’s future fertility are considered when planning individual treatments, and we have several active research studies underway that focus on this important area of survivorship.
