Barbara Robinson, RD holds a master's degree in public health (MPH) and was the senior pediatric dietitian at Hasbro Children's Hospital for over 15 years until joining the division of pediatric gastroenterology, nutrition and liver diseases. She has been involved in medical school education for many years in the areas of curriculum development and teaching. Robinson's research interest is prevention of childhood obesity in infancy and early childhood.
In the community, Robinson chairs the Early Childhood Workgroup of The Initiative For Healthy Weight at the Rhode Island Department of Health and is on the medical advisory committee for C.H.I.L.D., Inc. Robinson regularly lectures to professional groups on prevention of obesity via enhanced primary care practice. She has given numerous television, radio and newspaper interviews.
Research Projects:
Investigator with Linda Shalon, MD (PI), on a grant for the development of an innovative curriculum for pediatricians and family practitioners.(CDC grant B01859) The subject area was acquisition of eating and activity behaviors in infancy and early childhood and how to counsel for promotion of healthy behaviors.
Finalist with Linda Shalon, MD (PI) to investigate a curriculum in an urban Head Start setting for prevention of overweight in early childhood. Final award pending 12/07
