Lifespan Updates Governance Structure, Names New Board Members

Structure streamlines separate boards into a single entity

In an effort to streamline its governance structure, Lifespan, Rhode Island’s largest integrated health care delivery system, has named a single board of directors that will act as a mirror board for Lifespan and each of its partner hospitals, which include Rhode Island Hospital and its Hasbro Children’s Hospital, The Miriam Hospital, Newport Hospital and Bradley Hospital.

The decision to move to a single, system-wide board follows the completion of a comprehensive study that included input from trustees, health care advocates, health care professionals, other health systems and the community at large.

“We found that a consolidated board would allow for a single focus on strategy and for the development of common performance standards,” said Scott Laurans, chairman of the Lifespan board of directors. “This change also does something very important – it will help us better promote a system-wide dialogue and will allow for more efficient and effective means of resolving competing priorities and stay focused on our strategic direction.”
