The Brite Lite employee recognition program was launched in 2002, and highlights five employees who have gone above and beyond their everyday duties to make the patients and families with whom they come into contact feel safe, important, and well cared for.

Brite Lites are selected as those who best exemplify “the four Cs” at Hasbro Children’s Hospital: caring, communication, cooperation and competence.

Brite Lite Erica Chung, MD

Erica Chung, MD

Dr. Erica Chung was amazing during my son’s stay as well as after discharge. She listened to every question and concern and explained everything (sometimes multiple times). She called us after discharge three times to ensure his well-being and called his pediatrician to be sure everyone was on the same page with treatment. She went above and beyond in making sure our entire family was informed and comfortable. Thank you, Dr. Chung.

I brought my son into the emergency room because of symptoms appearing to be consistent with strep throat. Upon our arrival, we were led to an exam room and immediately greeted by Dr. Pham who began thoroughly examining my son and asking us questions. Within fifteen minutes Dr. Pham had diagnosed that my son was suffering from the effects of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) as a result of rapid-onset Type 1 diabetes. I am forever thankful that I brought my son to the hospital that morning and I know we were blessed to have Dr. Pham overseeing his medical treatment. She took the time to ask the questions and catch the symptoms. In short, she saved my son’s life.

Anthony Fusco is very personable and comforting, and goes above and beyond. Treats the whole family, not just the patient. Lively, very likeable-reassuring, great sense of humor. Educates as well as treats. Kind, understanding - a comfort to have in a time of need. Please pass on to Anthony how much his care is/was truly appreciated.

Last night we had reached a point that we needed sleep desperately. Julia Jacavone offered to feed and change our son every two hours for a few feedings. She found a swing to put him in which calmed him down allowing him to rest comfortably. When our son sleeps, so do we! Overall she was very friendly and caring.

 

 

 

Brite Lite Jodi Russell, BSN, RNJodi Russell, BSN, RN

The moment Jodi Russell walked into the hospital room to transport my daughter by ambulance, Jodi and her team made a big impression. Riley had never been in a hospital, and Jodi explained everything in a gentle, child and parent-friendly way. Through her intense pain, Riley smiled and was thrilled when she was presented with a teddy bear for bravery. As she was leaving, Jodi told my daughter she would visit her after surgery. Jodi came by on Monday. It wasn't a  "quick" visit - it was an actual, genuine visit.  My daughter was thrilled. Our stay at Hasbro could've been difficult, scary and nerve wracking. Thanks to great staff of caring nurses, doctors and Jodi and her team it became pleasant.
